Connection is one of the great parts of life, and connecting with your community leads to a greater sense of belonging, purpose and joy. At Co.As.It. Sydney, we strongly believe in the importance of community connection and joining together to celebrate our shared cultural heritage. If you would like some ideas about how to connect more with your community, Co.As.It. is here to help.
Firstly, a great way to connect is through giving back. At Co.As.It. we run a wonderful volunteer program, called the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS), where we pair our volunteers with members of our community, who provide a companionship and support visit once a fortnight. This form of connection through building relationships and providing a service to those in need is just one of the ways that you can join Co.As.It. in giving back to your community.
Another way to connect with your community is to join one of our Italian language classes, held both online and at our offices in Leichhardt, Sydney CBD and Meadowbank. Our conversation classes cater to all levels of Italian, and provide a great opportunity to meet other people who live locally, and want to practice and grow their language skills. They are also a great way to meet new people and make friends who also share a passion for the Italian language and culture.
If you are looking for social opportunities and outings, for either yourself or your elderly family members, our social support groups are a great place to start! At Co.As.It. we run several social support groups all over Sydney. Our Active Ageing groups help older individuals to stay active and involve day-trips and entertaining outings, while our Frail-Aged and Dementia-Specific social groups also provide relaxed outings and a social outlet for those who may require a little more support and care.
Cultural events are at the heart of community life, and Co.As.It. is proud to host and sponsor a variety of events throughout the year, including our Italian National Ball and the upcoming Ferragosto and Norton Street Italian Festivals. Ferragosto will be held in Five Dock on Sunday the 18th of August, with a celebration of Italian food, music, performances and activities. Make sure to come say hi to us at the Co.As.It. stall! Additionally, we have a special Cinema Italiano event at the Italian Forum Cultural Centre in August. You can stay connected with Co.As.It. and up to date with our events through following and liking us on Facebook.
Connecting with your community is one of the most rewarding life experiences, and at Co.As.It. Sydney, we love to support and bring our community together.
