In 2016 there were 10,006 women of Italian background between the ages of 50 to 74 years old in New South Wales who had not had a mammogram.

The 10,000 Italian Roses Project aims to raise Awareness about breast screening (mammogram) among the Italian community in New South Wales. You can help save the lives of women in your family and community. If they are between the ages of 50 to 74 years old, encourage them to have a FREE mammogram with Breast Screen NSW by calling 13 20 50.

An initial campaign was funded by Cancer Institute NSW and undertaken by the Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS) in partnership with Co.As.It. (Italian Association of Assistance), Westmead Breast Cancer Institute and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), with the support of BreastScreen NSW.The campaign was very successful, with a 24 per cent increase in first time breast screens of women of Italian background in NSW. Co.As.It. is now fundraising to continue this great work and establish an ongoing campaign, to create further awareness and continue to increase the rates of breast screening.
